Onward to Long Beach, Mississippi (March 25)

We got up reasonably early, enjoyed the sunrise, had breakfast, closed up our bags, got into the rental car and headed west.
We drove the Alabama Gulf Coast Scenic Drive to Fairhope,Alabama.  Fairhope was a small community on the east coast of Mobile Bay.  It was in Mobile Bay that during the Civil War, Admiral Farragut made his famous pronouncement, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!”  We walked out on the pier to have a look around.  We could see the city of Mobile in the distance.
What's wrong with the middle boat in this picture?
We drove over the top of Mobile Bay and though Mobile on Interstate 10 before dropping down the west side of the bay headed for Bellingraph Gardens and Home.   Clearly the 100-mile radius franchise Mr. Bellingraph bought in 1903 for $1,500 had paid off, the franchise being issued by a fledgling beverage company called Coca-Cola.

We decided to take US-90 through Pascagoula and Biloxi which was a mistake. It was slow.  It was boring.  If there is a next time, we will be on I-10 instead.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Long Beach, Mississippi.  It was clean, neat and typically Holiday Inn sterile in personality.  We have dinner at Steve’s Marina Restaurant, a fun place with friendly service and good food.
